Kibera Art Collective M2

Kibera is the largest urban slum in Africa. In 2019 The Great Gathering Nonprofit was visiting the country to meet with an Elder from the Gukuyu people. We were fortunate to have been directed to a contact from Maasai Mbili Art Collective, also known as M2, to be our guide in the country.

This group of artists are not only talented, they are also great humanitarians. They do outreach work with youth and adults alike to teach them art as a way to keep them away from gang life.

This is more than a project for us. Our team at The Great Gathering Nonprofit are honored to support this unique group of artists to continue their outreach and humanitarian work through art.

What we’ve done thus far…

Mural Projects: We’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to support mural projects in the slum when COVID started as a way to educate the public. The Great Gathering Nonprofit purchased soap and food for the community and the artists during that difficult period.

New Year’s Events: We have sponsored every New Year’s event at the art collective for children and adults in the community since 2019. We supply food and art supplies, and for the New Year’s celebration of 2025 they fed approximately 300 children and adults. It has become a tradition in the slum after all these years – thanks to your generous donations.

Our next phase of work with M2 is to support the construction of a website with a platform for them to sell their incredible art to the world.

Donations support basic needs for M2 to continue their work with art supplies, internet, phones, laptops and web development.

$6,000 USD is the current need.
